INFANT SURVIVAL

6 MONTHS & UP

At Aqua Journeys Swim School, we prioritize teaching all students the fundamental skill of rolling over to an independent back float for rest and breathing. Even infants and toddlers who are not yet walking can learn to maintain this position until help arrives. This skill is not only crucial for safety, but it’s also essential for older students as they learn new skills in the water.

Lessons are scheduled Monday through Thursday, with four lessons per week to ensure consistency and steady progress. The program length typically ranges from 20-30 lessons, but every child is different and may require more or fewer lessons to master the necessary skills.

15 MONTHS- 6 YEARS OLD

As toddlers and young children gain more physical skills and start walking, they are ready to learn more skills in the water. Children learn to swim a short distance, roll onto their back to float and breathe, and flip back over to continue the sequence of swimming and floating until they can reach safety at the steps or side of the pool. Swimmers learn the foundation of both water safety and swimming techniques needed to progress to future levels.

MAINTENANCE lessons

For optimal skill retention, children should continue lessons once or twice a week in a Maintenance Program. Maintenance lessons begin immediately after your child graduates from the Initial Infant Survival or Swim Float Swim Program.  However, if your child has not had lessons for an extended period of time, a Refresher Course will ensure your child is the independent, confident swimmer he/she was at the end of the Initial Program.

REFRESHER LESSONS

6 Months & Up

Prerequisite: Complete Initial Program

A refresher course for your child’s swimming skills is similar to a well-baby pediatric check-up, which allows us to readjust their float position and keep their safety skills sharp. If your child has been out of the water for an extended period of time, you may notice that they cry, cling, or refuse to use their skills. However, there’s no need to panic as children may have various fears, some of which may stem from a lack of confidence. Through refresher lessons, they can regain their confidence in no time. The duration of a typical refresher course can range from 5-10 lessons, depending on how long it has been since their last lessons and how much they’ve grown.
